Tenuta di Castellaro: a Certified Vegan and Natural Wine

We adopt vegan practices at every stage of our wine production

Since 2019, Tenuta di Castellaro’s wines proudly display the Vegan Attitude logo on all labels. This symbol, issued by the certifying authority Suolo e Salute, guarantees that our wines are vegan and reflects the implementation of vegan practices at every stage of production on the island of Lipari.

But what does Vegan Wine mean, and why is this certification important?

Vegan wine is a type of wine that, unlike conventional wines, does not use any animal-derived ingredients during production. In traditional winemaking, fining agents such as casein, albumin, or gelatin of animal origin may be used to clarify the wine.

At Tenuta di Castellaro, our wines are clarified through static decantation: the solid particles that would normally be removed by filtration are gradually eliminated through successive racking from one tank or container to another, resulting in a naturally clear wine in the bottle.

This process makes the wine not only more ethical and sustainable but also more respectful of the environment and animals.

To identify a vegan wine, you can look for the official certification logo on the label.

Choosing a vegan wine is therefore a gesture of respect for both animals and the planet, promoting more ethical and sustainable consumption.

In the world of fine wines, and on the wine lists of top restaurants, vegan certification is increasingly highlighted with a “V,” or even an entire section dedicated to organic and vegan-certified wines.

A recent example comes from our importers in New York: the City Roots Hospitality Restaurants group (https://cityrootsnyc.com). They operate five locations in Manhattan, all with vegan concepts, and all feature Tenuta di Castellaro wines by the glass or bottle.

Another great reason to choose our wines!
